Before MMV can install the offline client onboard a vessel, the vessel's dedicated PC or Virtual Machine must meet these minimum requirements. MMV will not install the software remotely until a qualified onboard technician has verified these are met.
Minimum hardware requirements
- Processor: Quad-Core 2.5 GHz CPU
- RAM: 16 GB
- Disk storage: Minimum 150 GB of SSD. Non-SSD drives are not supported.
- OS: Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016–2019 (or later). Other operating systems are not supported.
A Virtual Machine (VM) is acceptable with the same specifications above.
Bandwidth requirements
MMV needs to be able to connect to the onboard server remotely during install and for ongoing support.
- Minimum: 1.5 Mbit/s (192 KByte/s) or higher connection speed for remote control
- If you're unsure of your connection speed and latency (ping), run a test at speedtest.net. Results are in Mbps (Mbit/s).
Vessel IT requirements
- The offline version must be installed on a dedicated PC or Virtual Machine with no other software running on it.
- Laptops are not supported. Laptops tend to get switched off or removed, which breaks sync and availability.
- If using a VM, the VM Host must have adequate resources for MMV's VM plus any other VMs — the host cannot be overprovisioned. Example: if MMV's VM is allocated 16 GB RAM and another VM takes 10 GB, the host must have at least 32 GB total.
- Remote access must be provided to MMV via LogMeIn. LogMeIn must remain installed on the server at all times, and access must be granted within a reasonable, agreed timeframe.
- The dedicated PC/VM must remain powered on and connected to the vessel's network. It cannot be shut down or disconnected.
- The vessel must have a qualified IT person to install the PC on the vessel's network and maintain it alongside any other onboard hardware. MMV will not proceed without this technician's verification.
Future updates and upgrades
- From time to time MMV will identify important updates and patches that need to be applied to the dedicated PC.
- MMV will email the management company and vessel to advise on the importance of an upgrade.
- MMV will also advise whether MMV will perform the update remotely, or whether the vessel's IT person needs to perform it.
- Vessels must perform these updates in a timely manner or risk losing offline support.
Common questions
Can we use a shared server that's already running other software?
No. The offline version must be installed on a dedicated PC or VM with no other software running. Shared servers cause conflicts and are not supported.
What if our VM host is shared with other VMs?
That's fine, but the host must have enough resources for all VMs combined. MMV's VM needs 16 GB RAM and 4 CPU cores dedicated to it — no overprovisioning.
Do we need to keep LogMeIn installed even after install is complete?
Yes. LogMeIn must remain installed at all times so MMV can access the server for support and periodic updates.
